Meet Melissa Haile of Moss North Therapy |

Tell us about the benefits of blending Eastern Bodywork Therapy like Amma, Auricular Therapy and Thai with Western body work. Why do you enjoy using modern technology and creating customized rituals?

Eastern massage approach is focuses on the energetic point of view, western massage approach is towards the physical human body. In western massage therapy you get healing system that addresses various parts of the body and more on the musculoskeletal point of view.

Western massage tends to focus on diagnosing and treating a disease or illness based on a patient’s symptoms. For example, working on tight muscles, releasing trigger points, etc.

Eastern massage therapy involves healing based on energetic flow where massage is focused on helping the client find spiritual and energetic harmony. Eastern medicine considers both patient’s symptoms and an individualized diagnosis of a patient’s Qi (or chi).

Based on various diagnostic procedures like looking at a clients energetic levels or environmental factors. Traditional Chinese Medicine uses complex patterns of disharmony or imbalances within the body to determine a diagnosis usually as it relates to the whole person. The diagnosis would then give me a course of action to work from so that I can assess what Acupressure points I want to use and how I want to focus the massage; slower/relaxing vs more invigorating.

My focus is always on balancing my clients Qi, Prana or energetic flow, thereby encouraging health and healing. Providing my clients with a good homecare practice is important and it is important to me that I have a good resource of wellness practitioners who I can refer my clients to. Utilizing my background in Eastern Medicine, my recommendations will encourage natural forms of treatment that typically include that my clients seek herbalists, acupuncturists, nutritionists, take mind/body exercise (e.g., Tai chi, Yoga) and of course get regular massage.

At Moss North Therapy Western Massage modalities will include Swedish, Deep Tissue and Myofascial Massage, Eastern massage includes Amma Therapy, Thai Massage, Acupressure and Mind-Body-Spirit Therapy. When you receive a massage at Moss you are experiencing a combination of Eastern and Western Massage Modalities so that you are treated as a whole with a mind-body balance approach. Utilizing Western Modalities infused with Ancient Intuitive Wisdom with an energetic approach.

About Melissa //

Born in New York City by a family of healers. In the 70’s, my grandmother (a talented Iridologist), along with Ruth Sackman, co-founded a Non-Profit Cancer Therapy Organization called Foundations for The Advancement of Cancer Therapies (FACT). A documentary was filmed, and a book was published based on FACT. Inspired by this remarkable community of healers, I set my sights on becoming a Healing Arts Practitioner. For over 20 years, I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist and a Practitioner of Asian Bodywork Therapy.

Additionally, I am a 500-Hour Certified Vinyasa Yoga Teacher and a Doula, proudly trained by Debra Pascali Bonaro author and documentarian of “Orgasmic Birth”. For five years, I was a Professor of Massage Therapy in New York City. There, I trained massage professionals in Shiatsu, Swedish and Myofascial Therapy. I am one of very few Colorado healers part of the Certified Practitioners of the American Organization of Asian Bodywork Therapy (AOBTA-CP). As an Asian Bodywork Therapist with over 500 hours of Traditional Chinese Medicine, I offer Amma Therapy, Nutritional recommendations and Herbal recommendations. In 2014, I visited Chengdu, China, for specialized training on Traditional Chinese Medicine. These practices are particularly useful for women when it comes to issues of Fertility, Prenatal and Postpartum healing.

In 2019, my family left New York and moved to Denver.

The strong background that I have from my upbringing coupled with the strong educational background that I received in massage therapy school is what I believe has kept me in this industry for so long. Being passionate about taking Continuing Education classes is what has kept my twenty years of work fresh and always up to date. I have also worked for while in the spa industry as a Lead Therapist and Spa Director for leading hotel spas in New York City. With my experience in the spa industry, I have learned to love the art of curating a massage and turning it into an experience. Some of the services/ packages that I currently offer include; “Self Care” Package which is a three pack of massages that may include; Gua Sha, Acupressure, Amma, Fire Cupping and Swarovski Ear Seeds all packaged into one 90 minute massage session each. “Share The Love” package provides the same offerings as the “Self Care” Package but is a six pack that you can share with anyone you love. “Mommy Needs A Break” Package consists of 6 90 minute Prenatal or Postnatal Massages. “The Mile High” Massage Package offers 6 sessions of 90-minute CBD massages which include an exfoliating body scrub and CBD Heated Body Wrap. All packages can be sampled once by purchasing a 90 minute trial to either package for $100.
