YONI STEAMING

By Havanna Stegner, Ayurvedic Wellness Educator

Yoni steaming is a beautiful ritual that provides the opportunity to connect with the life force energy of your womb. This ancient practice can spark insight, enhance creativity, and enlivens your divine feminine energy. Yoni steaming also increases circulation in the pelvic bowl, cleanses + detoxifies the uterus and vagina. It can address PMS and painful periods, as well as provide fertility support. This practice is part of the Mayan lineage and can be traced back over 4,000 years.

HOW TO STEAM AT HOME //

  • Take a moment to connect with your intention for your steam and clear your space with sage, palo santo, or rosemary.
  • Set up your space with a large glass mixing bowl, bolster or pillow(s), a towel, a blanket and socks. You may want to set up a small altar, light some candles or play soothing music.
  • Heat up enough water to fill your bowl about half full. Put 3/4 to 1 cup of the herbal blend into the bowl, then pour the hot water over the herbs.
  • Scrunch up your towel and place it around the perimeter of the bowl so there is a barrier between you and the bowl.
  • Put on your socks, undress from the waist down and do ‘child's pose’ with your hips over the bowl. Place the bolster/pillows underneath your torso to support you. Drape the blanket over your hips to lock in the steam.

You may want to give the herbs 1-3 minutes to cool so the steam is not too hot. Test the temperature of the steam with the back of your hand, before exposing the vulva and vagina to the heat. Please be careful and don’t burn yourself!

Steam for no longer than 30 minutes, then give yourself time to relax, connect with yourself and integrate your experience. Send gratitude to the plants that you used for the steam.
