Provider Feature // Dr. Valerie LeComte
I think most of us have had an unpleasant experience with the healthcare system at one point or another. Over the course of my medical training, I became very disenchanted with the current system. Once people develop a chronic condition, they generally just get put on medications and end up in a downward spiral of illness. Racial and gender bias is a huge problem in medicine. Patients are ignored and told symptoms are in their heads, which leads to delays in diagnosis. Insurance carriers dictate care-with appointments getting shorter and shorter. Doctors are overwhelmed by having to take care of more patients for less pay. Patients are frustrated by their inability to get the care they need. At this point, everyone is unhappy with how things are working.
My goal is to provide care in a different way. I bring this perspective of wanting to do things differently, to be able to help my patients make lasting change in their lives. To compassionately listen to my patients and understand where they are coming from. To develop a therapeutic relationship that helps to facilitate deep healing. To get to the root cause of their problems, instead of treating symptoms. To provide a holistic framework for healing that applies to their entire lifestyle.
Health is the basis for our entire lives. We cannot function our best in the many roles we play if we do not have this solid foundation. For so many people, improving their entire lives is done by starting with their health. The positive effects can then ripple into every other area. After dealing with a global pandemic for the past year, I think so many people are starting to prioritize their health and well-being in a new way. For some people this is brand new, while others are well versed in healthy living. Regardless of this, sometimes we all need a little guidance on our health journey. We are living in a time where we have so much access to information, but that sometimes makes it more confusing than ever! And for many people, generic health recommendations can only get them so far. That’s why it is important to work with someone who can provide a custom plan for their body.
My main practice is integrative medicine. We start out with lab testing to identify exactly what you need. This takes the guesswork out of things and ensures that your dietary, herbal, and supplement plan is exactly targeted to your body. I generally see my patients once a month for several months in a row. Healing is not an overnight process, so this allows me to provide support and guidance for anything that should come up. A big focus of mine is to help people make lasting and sustainable changes-with lifestyle practices that they can continue for the rest of their lives.
I also offer osteopathic manipulation, ear acupuncture, and my newest service-acute injury pain relief. This one was inspired by my own recent injury and healing journey, and it incorporates the practices and treatments I used to help aid in recovery.
