Listen to Your Body

By Carol Cyman | Owner of Center Strength Studios

“Listen to your body.  It will tell you what it needs if you listen close enough.”  Those words from my father, an Osteopathic physician, resonate with me even more so with each passing year.

What is your body telling you?   How and what are you feeling these days?  Stiffness from limited movement and too many hours hunched over a computer screen?   Soreness from not stretching your body properly before or after your usual hike, workout, or day on the slopes?   Not having enough strength to carry the load of your child’s growing body; a heavy bag of groceries or heave your carry on into the above seat storage?  A lack of energy, focus, and clarity?

My sister, Suzanne, was a client who started attending classes at Center Strength over 15 years ago as a middle-aged woman with 2 young children.  She had developed sciatica and was referred to the Studio for treatment.  Which evolved into taking pilates classes there relatively regularly over a number of years.’

After her pilates classes, more times than not, she would hop into her car with a diet coke in one hand and a handful of Cheetos in the other.  And while she felt her body became stronger, more toned, and agile from her workouts, she realized that other parts of her body weren’t thriving.  Her energy lagged.   Her stress hormones seemed to be on high alert.  She was having a difficult time managing her young family, work life and home life.

This was the inspiration for evolving Center Strength Pilates to Center Strength Studios when it was purchased from the former owner 6 years ago.  While we feel that Pilates is a practice that can help men and women of any age become stronger, more flexible, and toned, we also felt that many of our clients could benefit from more options to become stronger, more centered.   Thus, we expanded our pilates and gyrotonic offerings to include movement classes such as pilates mat, yoga, and barre; therapeutic massage to help with increased circulation, stress reduction, and mobility; physical therapy and broader wellness workshops and retreats with our collaborator Simply Nourished Nutrition and sister business, Devils Thumb Ranch Resort and Spa.  And our retail arm, centered+STRONG, with apparel, accessories, and gifts to inspire a more balanced lifestyle.  *(not all offerings are available at our Nurture Studio.)

At Center Strength Studios, we feel you have only one body.  It is our goal to help you “hear” what your body is saying and offer solutions to make it stronger, more centered, and balanced.
